about EMF

What is EMF?

Electromagnetic Field (EMF) is a continuous field produced by electrically charged objects such as your cellphones and Wi-Fi. EMF travels in a wave-like pattern at the speed of light and this propagation is called electromagnetic radiation.

Some electromagnetic fields are produced naturally, like the low intensity EMF emitted by our body. However, tech-made EMF — those transmitted by cellphones and Wi-Fi — are unnatural and can cause health risks.

The Radiation Spectrum

EMF varies based on their propagation: the difference in their wavelengths and frequencies. High wavelength radiation — like a radio — have a low frequency and convey small amounts of energy. Low wavelength radiation have a high frequency and are packed with tremendous energy.

What is the impact on our body?

The Mechanism Of Oxidative Stress

Oxidative Stress is an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in your body. Free radicals are highly reactive oxygen-containing molecules that can cause large chain chemical reactions in your body because they react so easily with other molecules. When there are too many free radicals for your body to keep in check through antioxidants, free radicals start damaging DNA, proteins and lipids in your body. This process is called oxidative stress. As proteins, lipids, and DNA are essential to the function of all of our organs and tissues, oxidative stress can lead to a vast number of diseases over time.

Ionizing vs. Non Ionizing Radiation

A myth among the public is that wireless radiation being non-ionizing, they cannot cause cancer. This is inexact, as non-ionizing radiation are just as dangerous as ionizing radiation, just for a different reason. Today, there is sufficient scientific evidence of cellular damage caused by non-ionizing radiation that can lead to cancer.

What is true is that ionizing radiation and non-ionizing radiation do not harm our cells the same way as their biological impacts differ. Ionizing radiation generates a high energy that causes the electrons of atoms to dislodge - effectively creating the “ions”, directly damaging to the DNA; whereas non-ionizing radiation leads to an increase in free radicals, promoting oxidative stress that is the root cause of cancer, cardiovascular diseases and other diseases.

Studies have shown EMFs can increase oxidative stress, and in turn lead to:

Chronic oxidative stress, which can be enhanced by exposure to wireless radiation, is one of the root causes of cancer. Therefore, numerous studies linked exposure to EMFs with an increase in the risk of developing cancer, particularly brain tumors. Chronic oxidative stress is also a factor that accelerates aging.

Lower fertility & testosterone

Studies have shown that men who keep their cellphone in their pocket for more than 4 hours per day experience a decrease of up to 50% in sperm count and sperm quality. Pro athletes coaches recommend avoiding exposure to EMFs as it can lower testosterone production as well.

Neurodegenerative Diseases and Cognitive disorders

Numerous studies found that EMF exposure leads to affected brain functions such as memory, learning, cognition, attention and behavioral problems. The oxidative stress it generates may also increase the likelihood of developing Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

Heart Disease

The oxidative stress that can be generated by wireless radiation may contribute to cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in the US. It has also been linked with hypertension and diabetes.

“Radiofrequency energy is another word for microwave radiation. If people understood that they were holding a two-way microwave-radiating device next to their brain or next to their reproductive organs, they might think differently about it.”

“Putting it bluntly mobile phones are damaging the living cells in our bodies and killing many of us prematurely… We have created something that is harming us, and it is getting out of control.”

“Most studies claiming that there is no link between cell phones and brain tumors are outdated, had methodological concerns, and did not include sufficient numbers of long-term cell phone users to find an effect.”

I often ask the question: “How many times higher do you think the radiation background levels are today compared to 30, 40, 50 years ago?” Once there was a very brave man who answered: “100 times higher.” In fact, it is one million billion times higher!
